You've likely heard of Vegtan, which means tannins sourced from the vegetable kingdom. In leather stores this will be the thicker hide, used for shoes, sheaths, belts etc.  Hand tanned/ Bark tannin is an incredible material, created through an intricate process which involves steeping the skin in a bark liquour, or strong tannin tea.  These tannin sources can be from from Oak or Hemlock bark or sumac leaves (to name a few tannin sources).  We make a small amount of this durable, yet flexible soft barktan annually.
